A JOURNEY FROM KANNAUJ TO THE WORLD

Zighrana: A Legacy of Indian Perfumery

Zighrana is a fine fragrance house born from a 115-year-old lineage of attar-making in Kannauj, where perfumery has long been part of cultural and royal life.

Zighrana was founded by Mr. Akhilesh Pathak and his daughter, Ms. Swapnil Pathak Sharma, born from a shared vision to carry forward this deeply rooted heritage into a refined, global expression of luxury.

For Mr. Pathak, perfumery has never been merely a profession, it has been a lifelong devotion. With decades of experience in crafting attars and essential oils, his work is guided by instinct, patience, and an intimate understanding of raw materials, knowledge that cannot be taught, only lived and passed down through generations. His hands carry the memory of time.

For Swapnil Pathak Sharma, this world was not discovered, it was inherited. Growing up amidst the quiet rhythm of distillation, the scent of mitti, roses, and sandalwood was not extraordinary, but everyday. It was this very familiarity that shaped her vision, to take something so deeply Indian, so steeped in tradition, and present it to the world with a new voice, one that speaks the language of global luxury, without losing its soul.

Launched in New York on February 14th, 2022, Zighrana was unveiled by the Hon’ble Consul General of India in New York, Mr. Randhir Jaiswal, along with the Hon’ble Ambassador of India to the United Nations, Mr. T. S. Tirumurti.

Zighrana’s creations were selected as part of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India’s official gift hampers presented to world leaders during the G20 Summit 2023, carrying India’s aromatic legacy onto one of the world’s most distinguished stages.

Its first fragrance, created in collaboration with chef Vikas Khanna, further reflects the house’s unique approach, where memory, culture, and craftsmanship come together.

Each creation is crafted using traditional distillation techniques and rare Indian ingredients, designed to evoke memory, presence, and quiet luxury.

A legacy that does not announce itself, but stays.

The Zighrana Mark

Inspired by the timeless architecture of the Brihadeeswara Temple, an enduring masterpiece of the 11th-century Chola dynasty, the Zighrana logo is a reflection of heritage, devotion, and artistry.

Derived from the Sanskrit word “jighrati”—to smell—the name evokes a deeper sensory experience beyond the visible. The “Z” draws from ancient inscriptions, while its surrounding forms echo sacred motifs and temple murals, symbolizing continuity and grace.

Conceived by its founder, Ms. Swapnil Pathak Sharma, the mark reimagines tradition with a modern sensibility—bridging the past and the present.

A symbol not just to be seen, but to be felt.
